In addition he served as an Assistant Director of Student Activities at South Lakes High School where he was also the head football coach, physical education teacher, and driver’s education teacher.During his tenure as a Director of Student Activities at Falls Church Highs School he was responsible for all “extra-curricular “ activities that took place in the building. This included all building and grounds use to include their improvements, all clubs (70) athletic teams (42) and hiring and evaluating coaches (100). Mr. Graumann’s motto of “Activities the Other Half of Education” was his driving force in the improvement of virtually every aspect of Falls Church student life. Mr. Graumann was an integral part of the administrative team at Falls Church High School lead by Dr. Vera Blake. This team implemented considerable changes during its tenure and achieved recognition of raising scores of an extremely diverse student population. Many improvements and upgrades were made to the building to enhance learning and to achieve positive results for the entire student population.

Mr. Graumann was also in charge of the building engineer, and building supervisor, to include all custodians (15) both day and night. With over 6,000 requests for building use this was imperative to the smooth operation of a building being used seven days a week, eighteen hours a day. He developed and implemented an organizational system for cleaning the building and assisted in the start up of a custodial training school housed at Falls Church, whereas custodians would learn to clean with a “team approach”. This enabled an organized crew to work collaboratively to improve the cleanliness and appearance of the school complex.

Mr. Graumann joined Fairfax County Public Schools in 1971 as a physical education and coach at Robinson Secondary. During his tenure he distinguished himself in coaching with a record of 116-6 in boys gymnastics along with National Coach of the Year honors in 1982. He was named Assistant Activities Director at South Lakes High School in 1993 where he taught two physically disabled classes and was head football coach.
